The INTERREG Cross-Reg-4-Health project is an EU-funded, cross-border project of the University Medical Center Maribor, the Medical University of Graz, the Klinikum Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, and Alma Mater Europaea University.

The aim of the project is to strengthen the collaboration among participating centres and across the cross-border region and to enhance the knowledge and clinical skills of healthcare professionals in the management of intracerebral haemorrhage. The collaboration aims to deepen the understanding of the long-term consequences of intracerebral haemorrhage and to advance insight into the clinical utility of biomarkers to better understand causes and long-term prognosis in affected patients.

Our goals

CrossReg-4-Health will establish a digital cross-border educational platform to train healthcare professionals on the treatment of patients with ICH at different stages of disease (from acute treatment to rehabilitation), consisting of a combination of e-learning and physical exchanges.

Ziele

Our mission

In addition to contributions to the main project goals, the Medical University of Graz leads a subproject aiming to assess the utility of biomarkers in the outcome prognostication of patients who have suffered an intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH), aiming to translate research biomarkers including neuroimaging into clinical practice.

Further goals of CrossReg-4-Health include addressing underexplored areas such as pain management and long-term quality of life following an ICH and the harmonisation of diagnostic and treatment approaches of ICH across borders.

Kick-Off meeting & Press conference January 2026

The successful kick-off meeting for the EU-funded, cross-border CrossReg-4-Health project took place at the University Medical Center Maribor. The Medical University of Graz is proud to be part of this significant European cooperation project. At the Department of Neurology the scientific leadership of the project belongs to Christian Enzinger and Simon Fandler-Höfler, who bring the institution’s proven professional expertise to the project and provide important impetus for its practical implementation. The meeting focused on the development and harmonization of a standardized treatment protocol for patients following a cerebral hemorrhage. This protocol is also to be implemented and evaluated in clinical practice as the project progresses. The goal is to combine scientific findings with proven clinical experience and thereby sustainably improve the quality of care.

The project was presented to the public on January 23, 2026 during a press conference at the University Medical Center Maribor. The participation of Aleksander Jevšek, Minister for Cohesion and Regional Development, underscores the national and European significance of CrossReg-4-Health. This project strengthens cross-border cooperation and provides an important impetus for the further development of care for patients following cerebral hemorrhages.
